Brandon House: Portland, OR
The design of this house is derived from the shape, size and history of the site. Triangular and as tall as it is wide, the site presented a challenge. To the south of the site, the architecture is mostly industrial; to the north it is wood frame residential. The Brandon House echoes each of those distinct architectural styles, takes influences from both, and weaves them into a dynamic composition. The house is clad in both industrial and historically residential materials. The resulting three level house has unique outdoor spaces, and its interior is flooded with natural light yet provides the owner with complete privacy. The living areas inside and out all have spectacular views of downtown Portland and Mount Hood. The house was completed for $129 / SF. In 2004 this house was featured on "Dream House", the HGTV series that features the design and construction of unique houses.
