Plasteel Frames: Seattle, WA
COLAB was approached to design this tenant improvement in a recently renovated warehouse near downtown Seattle. Our design team conceived of the project as one large gesture that stretched through the entire space. This gesture marks the line that traces the path of products and services performed by the factory operators in the back of the space to the showroom operators up front. Raw materials come in through the back door, are crafted and worked on and then move to the front of the “factory” and finally is terminated as a framed art object exits through the front door. The entirety of the space is divided into separate components, each addressing a specific environmental need for the production process. This progression of spaces is completed by implementing two cubes; “occupied frames” serving as sample frame display case and a gallery for finished work. The scope of design work extended to include a logo and branding package for the company to align with the conceptual elements of the design. The project was constructed in 2008.
