Port Rashid | Scheme One: Dubai, UAE

Port Rashid is currently a busy seaport in the Gulf city of Dubai. Our client envisions the port operations being replaced by a larger and more efficient seaport five kilometers to the northwest. This move will leave a great waterfront redevelopment opportunity at Port Rashid. COLAB has been commissioned to master plan this expansive area as a new residential, commercial, and government center. The water-oriented design takes its inspiration from Venice and Amsterdam by incorporating a hierarchy of canals and streets. The designers integrated "water streets" and canals along with architectural shading at all streets to create a pleasant pedestrian environment in the harsh desert climate. The goal is to make a cityscape where automobile traffic is slowed and the pedestrian traffic is top priority.
